Life is Back to Being Good

Had a lovely night out with friends yesterday. The movie was ok - Pirates 3 - thought that the storyline was utter trash but the effects were cool and Johnny Depp was on the roll as he has always been. The best part was still catching up a bit with friends ever since the hols began and results took its toll... Everyone still seems to be the same. Which is a good thing! Love all my buddies...
The banter that went around at the CoffeeClub opposite Cathay Cine was fun. A little of this and a little of that and I totally forgot all about the stresses of work and home and scriptwriting. Being with friends just does that to you - you forget all about everything else. Which is nice. Sigh. If only everyday could be like this. :)
I think I am just rambling. Like I've always been doing. Sigh. And catching the last train home was exhilarating - if I thought that was exhilarating, how boring is my life eh? :P
Cheers,
Raffli.

Grades were out last Saturday. What was new? Nothing. If not worse. Sigh.
Think I'm gonna be a bit emo-ish today. Please don't kill me.
I did so so so much last sem. Churned out tons and tons of notes. For contracts, for crim, for legal theory and even for lawr. And none of the effort showed. I was dismayed. I was disappointed.
No no.
I was APPALLED.
I wanted to CRY when i saw my lawr grade. It was so dismal. I'm ashamed. Very ashamed.
When i clicked on the button, the moment I saw my results, it totally failed to register.... Totally. Then I blinked twice. And started shouting and screaming and flailing my arms like a madman. And my parents were beside me. They asked what just happened. I told them what transpired.
And their words to me were just "At least you passed."
I was quite relieved when they said that - thought they would fall to the ground and foam at the mouth or something. Thank goodness. But another side of me felt really really hurt. I spent so much time doing those notes. All those notes. Not withstanding some people or someone who said that the notes were totally useless after I passed it to them/him. And I read full cases at least 75% of the time. I felt really really hurt. Yeah. I felt betrayed by the results.
I thought that I could change all the wrong things I did last sem. But no. Nothing changed. I'm just too dumb and incapable to survive in law i think. Either i get a genius cell implanted in my brain next sem or a miracle happens. Or I can continue slogging like a pig on batteries next sem, try my best, hope for the best and be utterly disappointed once more. They don't want just the answer. They want sparks of brilliance to appear out of the 2-3 hours they assign to you for the exams. Sparks of brilliance. Which I totally don't have. Sigh.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had gone to take Arts instead and majored in Literature. Sigh... Esp nowadays.
Sigh...
But what's past is past right?
I've gotta move on.

PS: Maroon 5 and Fall Out Boy are great for those emo moments and those moments where u just feel like singing loudly to rhythmic catchy music.

How do you tell someone something that you find is really really hard to say and could potentially destroy your friendship as you know it?
How?

Here I am back at home, watching of all things, The Little Mermaid on the Disney Channel. Very mature I might say. But the movie's great - I loved the movie when I was much younger and I still love the show to pieces. :) The songs are totally awesome. Who here dares say they've not heard of "Part of Your World" or "Under the Sea"? Such classics... Sigh... :P
This week has been awesome - extremely tiring but extremely fulfilling.
Every weekday's been spent at the office at Clarke Quay from 9am-6pm. Very very dry work poring through hundreds and thousands of documents but the company totally makes up for it - what's been excellent for the week has been what happens after work! :)
Monday saw me trying to borrow a coat from a friend in Hall so right after work ended, I went down to Hall to get it from him but he was at Wushu training. So I waited for him at a friend's room in Hall and all 3 of us went for a late dinner at Clementi at one of the many food courts there. Wasn't much for me to choose from so I ate Fish & Chips instead which was very nice but after many hours of waiting just suddenly didn't seem so appetizing any more. But it was still nice food! Reached home at about midnight when everyone was already asleep.
Tuesday was Phantom night! :) Made it a point to reach the MRT station beforehand but since I reached there super early, I went to grab a quick bite at the Food Court in Raffles City - Prata. Very slow but it was rather nice and it settled my grumbling tummy somewhat. And Phantom was just awesome, awesome, awesome! Brad Little was on fire and Ana Marina was perfect! Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again was excellently done and I thought Brad Little was just superb in every single song that he did. :) And it also helped a lot that I was watching it with my hall friends - was a total riot and I couldn't stop applauding after almost every song! :) The cast was on fire! Lovely memories of Phantom now... :) After that, we went for drinks at Starbucks at Raffles City since everywhere else was closed by then. Lots of laughs, lots of catching up. Lots of fooling ard with the camera.
Wednesday was kind of a rest day except that I had a short meeting regarding Law Flag after work at Plaza Singapura and I went to hunt for some chocolates in PS. Pralines I think.
Thursday was a lovely evening out on Boat Quay and Clarke Quay with dinner at Manhattan's Fish Market @ Central, Chocolate Suckao at Max Brenner's @ Esplanade, walking along Boat Quay and Clarke Quay - the side where there's not a lot of ppl is a very lovely place for just walking - and a final drink at Coffee Bean's along Clarke Quay. And out of nowhere, JB appeared and suddenly said hi! And told me that the rest of the gang was at Mind's Settler's Cafe - Couldn't find the blardy place and it was getting late... So sorry guys I couldn't find u guys to say hi!
And Friday saw me and my hall friends (and a law friend) going down to JB to have some seafood!!! Blardy good seafood. Had my fill of Chili Crabs and Sotong and what have u not... And at very very cheap prices. :)
And that was my week. This weekend portends a lot of work with the script and the plotline so it doesn't sound as exciting but I hope next week turns out to be as fun as this week has been! :)
Till then, ciaoz... :)

Well, surprisingly enough I've been working for the past week save for Monday. And it's been in a law firm in Clarke Quay. I vaguely remember myself resolutely telling myself before the exams ended that I would not be ending up like most of my friends interning in a law firm during the hols - it was one of those things you tell yourself: "look... I SO don't want to be in one... Too young to see how law firms work" but lo and behold, the first job I've ever gotten in my life (it's really my real first job) is in a law firm. Wow. Exciting.
But the job's been rather exciting thus far because we're almost directly related to an upcoming case and the case seems to be anything BUT bland. :) And the company of Zhiwei, Joel, Peiyin and Joel have been nothing but a bundle of gossip and laughs during office time and during lunch. The centrality of the office place also means that we have a myriad of places to go to during lunch :) Just yesterday we went down to a hawker center near the spanking new Wong and Partnership somewhere in Chinatown I think just by walking. Everything is within walking distance. I love this place.
The room they've given us is rather incredibly cold though - even though we wear long sleeved shirts, these shirts are totally insufficient for the icy coldness of the room. I have to bring a sweater to work to survive the crazy coldness.
And I had a lovely evening on Thursday even though I think the trek up Mount Faber in black office shoes and a long sleeved office shirt was wrong because I sweated like a pig :P And I believe that one SHOULD NOT sweat like a pig when out with a friend or friends... Lol.
And a friend began his special term this week - for which I still have no idea why he did so. I would NEVER have taken a special term myself even if I was in his shoes... :) But for him, I guess I think it lies in interest and luckily the module he chose caters to that well. Haha... Jiayou... I was appalled when he told me that he was already studying and mugging. STUDYING AND MUGGING during the hols. That's just crazy... But then again, I so need to start reading Company Law soon - will need to make up for at least half the syllabus by the end of the holidays because I foresee a long production process for Raffles Hall Production next sem. I can't afford to miss out on my studies for hall activities - totally not worth it. But I think rehearsals for Production should be fun - kinda got my plotline figured out with the help of Chai Tea in Starbucks at Central Mall and with the help of a Hall Friend who could tahan my craziness after work yesterday to meet up at Toa Payoh for dinner and massive bouncing of ideas at Macs. And I don't even live anywhere remotely close to Toa Payoh. :P
Next weeks portend good things as well. Tuesday's Phantom - yeay! 2nd time I'm watching in Singapore! And Spiderman 3 with my hall buddies on one of the days! And pigging out on cheap seafood at JB after work on Friday! :) and then the weekend comes and perhaps a beach outing is in order either after work or during the weekend. I need to be somewhere remotely unSingaporean even though I'm in Singapore - beaches are able to make one feel one's not really home. Just you, friends and the breeze coming from the sea. And perhaps a lovely small picnic.
Oh... And I've been obsessed with Fall Out Boy ever since Exam Prep time - kept me alive and awake through many many hours of camping out in the Raffles Hall Library to the extent of staying there overnight on MANY occasions till breakfast time in hall. And then we'd be dead till about 3 when lunch was in order. At 3. I need to get that CD soon. "Infinity on High". The lead singer's voice is really really awesome - his range is quite amazing and his control is impeccable. In my opinion. And their lyrics are so so quirky - not much really makes sense but they are so so quotable! Stuff like these...
Gotta love this band though. Good coordination and great catchy music. Infinity on High's really really good. Gotta get this album real real soon! :)
Ciaoz till the next blog entry - and thanks for taking this passeggiatta with me once more.
Cheers,
Raffli.

Kiss away all these thrills and kills
On the mouths of all my friends

One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories

This ain't a scene, it's a god damn arms race
I'm not a shoulder to cry on
But, I digress
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh-so intricate oh-so intricate

One of the sweetest things the seniors did for us - they put up our names on pretty little signboards and we saw them when we came back from our first night of performance for RH Production - Swingers!
The Raffles Hall entrance on a cold, stormy night at 4am when me and my buddy were bored from studying and decided to watch the heavy rain from the skies... The place was almost flooded like the whole of NUS.

Hi people... I'm finally home after abstaining from going home for 3 whole weeks because of exam prep (a.k.a. last minute studying) and exams (a.k.a. journey to hell and back). And I will be home for the next 3 months, having not chosen to stay in Raffles Hall during the vacation. Saving some money for my next trip :)
The last night in RH on Friday night was surreal. It really was. But before that, a short assessment of exams is in order. Definitely.
There were 3 examinable modules this sem... Ooo... But they were tons and tons more difficult than last sem's modules I thought and the readings this sem were a total killer.
Legal Theory (the crap that I never understood during lectures but finally found quite interesting in the weeks leading up to the exam - Hart, Dworkin, Fuller, MacKinnon etc... I will miss you all. Right. Never.) The exam was, relative to the other 2 exams (contract and crim), the one I did with most ease - notwithstanding the fact that I had about a week to cram in all the theories I learnt from 2 months++ worth of seminars.
Total hoot, especially with people telling me that I was screwed. Lol... The library in Raffles Hall became my home and me and my hall mates crammed in there from like before dinner all the way till breakfast the next morning. Emerging totally groggy-eyed and sleeping till 3pm and later for *gulp* lunch. Wonderful memories. And this lasted all the way to the very last exam. Lol.
Contracts (the crap that I prepared tons of notes for, for tutorials, for lectures, that came to nought because I thought the paper was damn tough and I didn't have enough time to finish the last part of the last question and I still have no idea where operative mistake comes in in one of the questions and which someone thought that my notes were crap even though I spent days labouring over creating all my notes from scratch but the module with the best tutor I could have ever had). Tough tough paper. I came out of the exam hall pouting. Wasn't a very good experience - prob the paper with the most atrocious handwriting I've ever seen myself doing. But the essay was ok - kinda saw it coming so was prepared for the question. Its scope was a bit too broad though but I think the essay was ok overall.
Criminal Law (the crap that constituted 8 whole modular credits and the one that I procrastinated upon most of all because I thought I had made a lot of notes for crim but I realised that some of them were incomplete and I couldn't find the others that I had created because it was somewhere in my comm but I didn't know where I saved them and the one where unfortunately one of my friend's laptops died a few days before the exams and his notes were all still inside the comm and he had still not printed them out yet). Quite a tough paper in my opinion as well. Esp the last question where I got incredibly confused between Gang Robbery cum Murder, Common Object and Common Intention. But I managed to wax lyrical about s300(c) for murder - dunno if it was necessary at all but I managed to quote Prof Sornarajah! :P Just glad that intoxication didn't come out - read very little for that.
Overall, I thought the exams this semester were tougher than last sem. Happy that they spared us the horrendous take home exam fiasco that was SLS but sadder that they made the papers slightly tougher.
Guess what? I have to start embarking on reading the stuff for Yr 2 Sem 1 soon... Like about a few weeks down the road. Coz I need to finish my script for the Raffles Hall Production by the end of the month and I've got directorial duties for the whole of next sem which will consume most prob 75% of my time... Boo hoo... No time to join NUS Choir and run for Law Club Academic Sect. Sad sad.
But I've got big ideas for next sem's production. Hope they go through. :)
And yes... Friday was a surreal and happy-sad day... The moment Crim ended, we rushed down to Brewerks for lunch where I had seafood spaghetti. Do not get that. Unless you like mussels and shellfish. Which I totally don't like. And I am also allergic to prawns. And they had tons of prawns. And then K-Box happened! I was quite revved up to sing stuff but somehow when I got there, all my tiredness set in and I just sat at the corner and promptly fell asleep without meaning to. Sang a song that sounded rather throaty then went back to hall for photo taking! And then supper at Fong Seng with a few close hall friends. Me and my hall buddy spent the rest of the night watching endless videos on youtube and tv-links without any particular purpose. Hilarious up to the point where i fell asleep and didn't wake up till 12 in the afternoon after my mom gave me a call to order me to pack up because my dad and uncle were coming down at 3pm.
Packing up suddenly felt very sentimental because the room was home to me for 1 whole year. 5-316. I'll never forget those numbers... Sigh... I'll miss my room. Plus my room mate who's moving over to Kuok Foundation, my neighbours whom I hope I will stay close to next sem and my close hall friends who are not staying in Raffles Hall next sem when room ballotting begins on the 21st of July. Sigh... Great memories in Raffles Hall - will never forget them and all the people that made my 1st year in Uni, Law and Raffles Hall so enjoyable.
And I am SO NOT ATAS... Seriously :P I love chicken rice at hawker centres :)
Till next, ciaoz... :) Photos coming up in the next entry!
